Our Pastor

Reverend Tyquan L. Alston is a respected preacher, pastor, minister of music, and traveling minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. He began his ministry singing and plying in Zion at the ternder age of ten. An accomplished musician, Reverend ALston has a unique ability to blend rich traditions of the AME Zion Church with a contemporary nuance that inspires saints across generations.

Although music was his first expression of ministry, God had other plans. During his sophmore year at Livingstone College, Reverend Alston accepted God's will for his life and answered the call to preach.

Reverend Alston delivered his initial sermon on June 10, 2012, and was licensed as a Local Preacher during the 2012 Wilmington District Conference. Since answering the call, he has continued to use his gifts of preaching, music, leadership, and service for the edification of the Kingdom of God.

On May 7, 2016, Reverend Alston earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Liberal Arts from Livingstone College. He was ordained a Deacon in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church on March 10, 2018, and subsequently ordained an Elder on March 9, 2019. Reverend Alston pursued graduate theological education at Hood Theological Seminary with a concetration in Preaching and Worship. In 2025, he was honored with induction into the Bishop Alfred G. Dunston College of Preachers.

Reverend Alston has served the Church faithfully in numerous capacities. He has served on the Board of Admissions for both Eastern Shore District and the Philadelphia and Baltimore Annual Conference. He has also been an active member of the Watchmen with One Voice Ministerial Alliance, providing spiritual covering and collaborative minisrty throughout Wicomico, Somerset, and Dorchester counties.

Reverend Alston served faithfully as pastor of St. Paul AME Zion Church in Salisbury, Maryland from 2021 until 2026 where God used his ministry to strengthen the congregation, advance the work of the Kingdom, and prepare him fro the next chapter of pastoral leadership.

On June 28, 2026, through God's divine wisdom and providence, Bishop Daran H. Mitchell appointed Reverend Alston to serve as Pasotr of Lomax Temple AME Zion Church in Detroit, Michigan. Revered Alston embraces this new assigment with gratitude, humility, and great expectation, believing that God has called him to help equip the saints, strengthen the church, reach the community, and continue building upon the rich legacy of Lomax Temple.

Through every season and every assignment, Reverend Alston stands firmly upon his favorite scripture, Romans 8:28, knowing that regardless of the obstacles encountered along the journey, "all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose."
